Ignition timing marks — early flywheel

▲ Safety-critical — over-torque-intolerant. Do not exceed the figure.
Value
S = static 9° BTDC
Applies · /5 & /6 · to the end of /6 production
Timing a /5 to the 6° figure below leaves it materially retarded. Identify by the flywheel, not the year. The 6° specification below is documented for the /7 from the 1977 model year; the /6 and /5 carry the earlier marks. A machine built across a changeover, or one that has had a flywheel fitted at some point in fifty years, may carry either set. Read what is actually stamped on the flywheel and use the row that matches it.

This is the book's general row. In the book, pick your model and year and this figure resolves to your machine, with the one-page torque sheet, the job pages and the printable booklet.
